Dr Thomas Silkstone Mysteries

The death of Lord Edward Crick has unleashed a torrent of gossip through the seedy taverns and elegant ballrooms of Oxfordshire. Few mourn the dissolute young man—except his sister, the beautiful Lady Lydia Farrell. When her husband comes under suspicion of murder, she seeks expert help from Dr. Thomas Silkstone, a young anatomist and pioneering forensic detective from Philadelphia.

Dr. Silkstone returns to put his forensic knowledge and investigative skills to work as he battles his rival, Dr. John Hunter, who is eager to examine and ultimately dissect (for research) the corpse of eight foot tall Charles Byrne, also known as the Irish Giant. As Silkstone struggles to protect Byrne and to uncover his own hidden secrets, Hunter is implicated in the death of a young castrato, and Silkstone’s betrothed, Lady Lydia Farrell breaks off their engagement without explanation, leading him into a maze of the blackest hearts.

As a mysterious poisonous fog rolls over the English countryside, bringing death and destruction in its wake, Dr Thomas Silkstone uses his considerable skills to investigate why so many are dying in Oxfordshire and beyond.
Amid the chaos and confusion, however, Thomas soon discovers that the fog is not the only killer on the loose. As day merges into night, storms rage and meteorites tears across the sky, paranoia spreads like wildfire and many villagers believe the end of the world is nigh. It seems that no one, not even Lady Lydia Farrell, is safe from the impending doom.

In 1780s London, American anatomist Dr. Thomas Silkstone is plunged into a swirling cauldron of sorcery, slavery, and cold-blooded murder . . .
When the sole survivor of an ill-fated scientific expedition to Jamaica goes missing upon his return to London, Thomas investigates. But as he searches for clues to the man's whereabouts, he is drawn deeper into a dark and dangerous world of vengeance, infidelity, murder, and the trafficking of corpses for profit. And after a headless body is discovered, Thomas begins to uncover the sinister motives of those in power who would stop at nothing to possess the Lazarus potion. . .
